MANCHESTER – Manchester United akhirnya harus mengakui keunggulan tamunya Ajax Amsterdam dengan skor 1-2, dalam leg kedua babak 32 besar Liga Europa, yang digelar di Stadion Old Trafford, Jumat (23/2/2012) dinihari Wib.

Kendati kalah, MU tetap melaju ke babak selanjutnya, karena di pertemuan pertama mereka menang 2-0. Dengan demikian, tim asuhan Sir Alex Ferguson itu masih unggul agregat gol 3-2.
Bermain di hadapan publik sendiri, MU unggul terlebih dahulu melalui gol yang diciptakan striker lincah asal Meksiko, Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez. Menerima umpan dari Park Ji Sung, Chicharito memperdaya dua pemain belakang Ajax, dan kemudian melepaskan tendangan keras yang tidak mampu ditahan penjaga gawang lawan.
Ajax berhasil menyamakan kedudukan menjadi 1-1, lewat gol yang dicetak striker muda Aras Ozbiliz di menit ke-37. Gol ini lahir lewat sebuah kerjasama apik yang diperagakan para pemain Ajax, diakhiri tendangan keras Ozbiliz dari luar kotak penalti, dan tak mampu ditahan David De Gea. Skor 1-1 ini bertahan hingga akhir babak pertama.
Di babak kedua Ajax menambah satu gol lagi. Di menit ke-87, tim asuhan Frank De Boer itu kembali mencetak gol ke gawang De Gea, lewat sundulan Toby Alderweireld.
Bermula dari eksekusi tendangan bebas Orbiliz, pencetak gol pertama Ajax itu mengirim bola lambung ke jantung pertahanan MU, yang disambut dengan sundulan Toby Alderweireld.
Di sisa waktu tersisa, Ajax berusaha mencetak gol ketiga. Namun usaha itu terlambat. Ajax gagal menambah gol hingga peluit berbunyi panjang.
Menurut catatan UEFA, selama pertandingan MU menciptakan lima peluang emas dari enam usaha. Sementara Ajax melepaskan empat tembakan akurat dari 13 percobaan.
